Luminance HDR Portable is a fully functional, self-contained version of the popular open-source HDR software that runs directly from a USB flash drive or external hard drive without requiring local installation. It provides photographers on the move with an identical feature set to the desktop version, enabling 32-bit image merging and professional tone mapping on any borrowed or public Windows computer. Setting Up Your Portable Mobile Kit
Download the Package: Obtain the .paf.exe format or portable zip version from trusted open-source repositories like SourceForge.
Extract to Storage: Run the installer and point the destination path directly to your connected USB flash drive, external SSD, or SD card.
Keep Dependencies Local: Keep your bracketed raw source files in a dedicated folder on the same portable drive to maintain high read/write speeds.
Launch on Any PC: Plug the drive into any Windows computer, locate the folder, and double-click LuminanceHDRPortable.exe to begin editing immediately. Phase 1: Merging Bracketed Exposures
Initiate Wizard: Click the New HDR Image button on the main toolbar to launch the HDR Creation Wizard.
Load Source Files: Hit the green + icon to import your series of bracketed RAW or JPEG files.
Verify Exposure Values: Check the detected EV (Exposure Value) steps for accuracy; manually adjust them if the automated EXIF reading fails.
Fix Handheld Camera Shakes: Check the Auto-align box to activate built-in align_image_stack alignment algorithms.
Apply Anti-Ghosting: Select ghost removal thresholds to eliminate artifacts caused by moving subjects like pedestrians or vehicles between frames. Phase 2: Mastering Tone Mapping Operators
Once your 32-bit HDR profile is calculated, click Tonemap the HDR to translate the high dynamic range data into a shareable 8-bit or 16-bit format. Use the right-hand panel to pick your mapping algorithm: HDR Photography with Free Software (LuminanceHDR)
